Visiting the Selva Lacandona region in Chiapas is like stepping back in time. The men wear white, over the knee robes and help care for their family. The women wear colorful clothes and the little girls climb trees and ask for money if you want to take their picture. These girls are very well trained, as the area is filled with tourists from around the world who pay per picture. I met a guy from Poland whose dream was to visit the area, so he saved a lot of money from his landscaping business and came to Mexico for a month! Great to hear these stories and the interest in the region.
Simple minded territory. Life is slower in the Selva: they use the resources they have available, they preserve nature for future generations and they help us learn from the ancestors who left historical sites for us to enjoy!
