La Rosca

January 5, 2019

Ya compre la Rosca.  The oval shaped bread is huge, enough for 14 people and has dried fruit on top. I had the option of putting three baby Jesus figurines inside the ring.  I chose only one Jesus.  On Sunday, as we go around the table, cutting the bread, the person who finds the figurine will host a tamale party on February 2, Candlemas Day.  Last year, I spent the holiday in San Luis Potosi, Mexico with family and we shared this tradition with la Rosca, chocolate and some Puerto Rican food like tostones and arroz con gandules.  The tradition of children receiving gifts on this day and families sharing the bread, is celebrated in a few countries. Looking forward to celebrating on January 6, Dia de Los Reyes and la Rosca!
